CHATEAU DE GAVRAY

The "parapet walk" (symbol: the chessboard rock)

A path now goes around the walls from the outside. To take it, you have to retrace your steps to the entrance of the castle and turn right. This path was laid out around 1960, at a time when the walls were hardly visible, and the bulldozer sometimes tore them in. It was then called "chemin de ronde" and this name has been retained.
It allows you to observe sections of restored walls, particularly to the north, facing the village of Gavray, and to the south, at the back of the keep. It offers beautiful views of the Siena, the village of Gavray, the village of La Planche and the Bérence valley.

The village of Gavray, seen from the "rampart walk". The "chemin de parape", to the north, facing Gavray: the restored wall under the orientation table.
The "rampart walk", to the south, at the foot of the keep, during the clearing of brush in 1980.
The "walkway" between the barbican and the entrance to the castle.
